Macabre aka Rumah Dara, Film Review

Macabre (International Title) or Rumah Dara (Indonesian title) is the feature length debut project of the dynamic duo of Timo & Kimo aka The MO Brothers, originated from a rough idea in the 2006.

Synopsis for Macabre/Rumah Dara was completed in a short period of time, however because of financial and experience limitation, then the MO’s decided to extract the main story of Macabre and produced a short movie instead, entitled Dara.

Dara (25 minutes) is a loose spin-off from Macabre, taking the story of the daily life of a mysterious yet deadly woman named Dara (played by Shareefa Daanish). With a mixture of dark comedy and suspense/slasher, Dara gained recognitions in various Horror and Fantasy Film Festival local and internationally, which in the end lead to the realization of Macabre.

Macabre/Rumah Dara itself tells the story of a group of friends traveling from a remote part of the country back to the big city stops to help a young woman who claims to have been assaulted and robbed, eventually agreeing to drive her back home because the horn-dog among their group sees the opportunity to get a little action. And, oh, there’s definitely action waiting for them but not the sort anticipated …

You see, the whole thing is a set up. The girl was not robbed or harmed in any way. She’s bait. A lure meant to bring unsuspecting travelers back to the rest of her family, a bizarre lot that has seemingly been alive for hundreds of years fueled by a bizarre mixture of the occult and cannibalism. The friends? They’ll either be dinner or butchered and shipped to like-minded souls around the country.

Macabre/Rumah Dara is scheduled to hit theatres locally in October 2009 and has been creating rave and praises in Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival 2009 (where Shareefa Daanish won Best Actress for her portrayal as the sick Dara), North America Fantastic Film Festival, UK Fantastic Film Festival, etc.

Really can’t wait for this movie to hit theatres and splattered us with all of its gore bloodbath!
